He is a graduate of Dalhousie Law School (78).

He completed his medical doctorate at the University of Ottawa in 1982.

He has practiced full time general family medicine since 1982 located on Robinson Street in Vancouver.

He has taught at the UBC law school and currently teaches medical students.

He is an examinor for the Medical Council of Canada. He enjoys skiing, cycling, and physical fitness.
